Associate Professor, Director of Medical Dosimetry Program

Phone: 501-526-6591

E-mail: YanYulong@uams.edu

Dr. Yan obtained his bachelor degree and master degree in electrical engineering from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in China in 1985 and 1988. In 1997, he obtained his doctoral degree in Biomedical Engineering from Southeast University. He completed his residency training in Radiation Physics in 2001 at Stanford University School of Medicine. He is one of the key members for the development of the first LINAC-based stereotactic radiosurgery treatment planning system in China and, of the world’s first Rotary Gamma Unit for stereotactic radiosurgery. He is currently the director of Medical Informatics section of division of Radiation Physics & Informatics.

Research Interests:

His current research interests include medical imaging, dynamic treatment simulation for IMRT/IGRT, treatment planning optimization and Medical Informatics.

Clinical Duties:

  • Periodical quality assurance (QA) for LINACs, Tomotherapy unit, CT, simulator and GammaKnife;
  • Patient-specific IMRT QA;
  • Weekly chart checking;
  • LDR/HDR brachytherapy procedures including GYN cesium implant, MammoSite and prostate seed implant;
  • GammaKnife stereotactic treatment;
  • Supervision of medical dosimetrists;
  • Some treatment planning;
  • Medical physics consultation and trouble shooting.

  • Teaching:

    He is currently the director and instructor of medical dosimetry program, the co-director of Medical Physics Residency program. He is also the co-director and instructor of nation-wide Phillips IMRT training course in Arkansas.

    Society memberships:

    Full member of AAPM, Full member of IEEE
